RO Antiscalants - A Brief of their performance

In the process of reverse osmosis, antiscalants are used as pretreatments to avoid the chances of scaling in membranes, and extending their lifespan. Scaling is precipitation of inorganic scales of materials like calcium, magnesium, barium, strontium, fluoride, iron and silica in RO Membranes. Scaling shortens the lifespan of membranes,and it becomes important to clean membranes periodically.

SCALING SPECIES THAT FORM IN MEMBRANES

• CALCIUM CARBONATE is the most common scale,that appears chalky and off white. 


• CALCIUM SULPHATE is generally known as Gypsum.Due to its crystalline structure, it causes damages in membrane surfaces. 

• SILICA deposition on membrane walls is also an usual scaling issue,that can be observed in form of colloids as well as of Aluminosilicates.


• MAGNESIUM HYDROXIDE is well known for its precipitation at high pH and low solubility in water.

• BARIUM SULPHATE is a scale that appears in form of white crystals. It is also difficult to clean.

• STRONTIUM SULPHATE is found in form of crystals as well as of needles,which can affect membrane surface badly.

All the scaling species mentioned above can vandalize the membrane surfaces harshly,so its necessary to take preventive steps in time for prevention of scaling and Antiscalants are the chemicals used for this purpose.

It has the compatibility to work with all membrane types.It can work in presence of iron as well as manganese.

• RADIX 98 is a sea water antiscalants.It is efficient for inhibiting all the scaling types & species at optimum rate of recovery and energy consumption.

• CHEMIRO 909 is an antiscalant with neutral pH. It is efficiently used for inhibiting Calcium Sulphate.

• CHEMIRO 909N is an economical food grade RO antiscalant which is synthetic & polymer based antiscalants & is specifically used for RO plants. It is a non-toxic antiscalant which is free from phosphates & other chelants, that can bind with any metal ions in solution, along with Calcium & Magnesium.It can react actively in presence of chloride with hardness upto 990 PPM. It can be used for high silica waters of upto 400 PPM for phosphates and other chelants.

• RADOX AS216 is powder antiscalant that also works for prevention and control of deposition of inorganic scales.This antiscalant works a surfactant and is used to for high silica inhibition.

• RADOX C20 is highly concentrated economical RO antiscalant.It works effectively in scaling inhibition with high rates of recovery with optimum energy consumption.

• RO Antiscalant Balls can also be used in scaling inhibition of scales.They consist of Siliphos (Polyphosphates), which is used for scaling prohibition very effectively. These are specially manufactured to use at general places like hotels, households , restaurants and other public buildings.

RO MEMBRANE CLEANERS :

• ROKLEEN 21 is a low pH membrane cleaner,that is specifically used for cleaning RO/NF/UF(Reverse osmosis/Nanofiltration/Ultrafiltration) membranes.It is efficient enough to inhibit multiple types of scales including Carbonates & Sulphates of calcium, barium, strontium and magnesium.

• ROKLEEN 27 is an alkaline high pH membrane cleaner.It is available in liquid form and can be used in inhibition of various types of foulants that get generated in membranes e.g. oil, colloidal clay ,biological organisms and scaling materials (mineral precipitates).It has a varying pH value of 8.5 to 9.5 and specific gravity or relative density of 1.02 to 1.05.

• ACUROCIDE R13 is also a non-oxidising membrane cleaner that is used for inhibiting biological fouling.It is a highly effective oxidising biocide giving excellent biological control at low dose rate.
