Defoamers - Overview of Their Working Process and Types
Defoamers destabilize the existing foam generated. It works with multiple process mechanisms including knocking down surface foam, releasing intentional air in the solution and breaking foams effectively.
As per the types, applications and usage there are categorized mainly as Silicone based defoamers and Food grade defoamers.
Silicone Based Defoamers :
- Silicone based defoamers have hydrophobic silica, a linear polysiloxane having end-blocked polyoxypropylene groups, a polysiloxane having a pendant polyoxypropylene group, a nonionic surfactant and preferably an inert diluent.
- These are especially used in paints and coatings, detergents, oil refining, paper and pulping industry etc.
Food Grade Defoamers :
- Food-grade defoamers remove foams as water-based food-grade defoamers in aqueous environments. e.g. food-canning processes
- It works as non-aqueous silicone-free defoamers in polymers & biodegradable oils.
- Food grade defoamers are manufactured to be deployed in applications like UF and RO membrane systems, dairy industry, Beverage industry, Dairy industry, Fermentation, Agriculture and other food manufacturing & processing units.
